Moral Imaginations x Ada Lovelace Institute - Rethinking Data Futures
A 6 month future visioning journey for a group of data, governance and policy experts
Last year, Moral Imaginations teamed up with Ada Lovelace Institute to design a 6 month visioning and collective imagination journey with a group of top international data governance experts, practitioners and academics. Today, 12 months later, we are really excited to announce that the team has published the final report and output of the work on rethinking data!
Over these 6 months, the group met monthly online and participated in workshops that ranged from envisioning the future 10, 20 and 50 years ahead, utilising future thinking methodology and practice to iterate on trends and patterns we see today, and identify the pathways to mitigating against those risks AND building a more hopeful future where citizens have control over their data, and data is governed responsibly with future generations in mind.
It was not a simple process, with the richness of the visioning to action process arising from the tensions and debate around different values and how to enact them in the group.
The group finished by identifying a shortlist of inspiring projects that could be expanded and worked upon including a “BBC for data” which had a lot of traction.
Thank you to the Ada Lovelace Institute and the Rethinking Data Group for all the time, energy and efforts to construct a more inspiring data governance future together!
With a special thank you to Valentina Pavel from ALI for all of the hard work gone into working with us on the process and producing the final report.
