Announcing: Online Webinar on May 15th: Interspecies Councils
Invitation to join Louise Romain from Moral Imaginations at the 'Co-creation with the More-than-Human' Sandbox for a dialogue and discussion about the Interspecies Council
The Interspecies Council at the Garden of Tomorrow, June 2024
Dear all,
We’re excited to invite you to an online learning session about the Interspecies Council, happening on 15th May, hosted by the Repatterning Collective and Kincentric Leadership as part of their ‘Co-creation with the More-than-Human Sandbox’.
Read on for the invite…
We’re grateful for your keen interest in the online learning sessions, with both our first two sessions ‘selling out’ for (free) tickets and featuring lively discussion during the session. After having covered Rights of Nature & Earth Law and More-than-Human Design in Practice in resp. March and April, our third session on May 15 will explore the practice of Interspecies Councils.
The learning sessions are not webinars; rather they're a space for semi-structured dialogue & discussion, with each session featuring an expert practitioner who takes a deep dive into the workings, developments, (im)possibilities & directions of a particular approach to engage with the more-than-human in response to (your) questions.
Continue reading below for more information about our next topic, or directly register via this link on Eventbrite to attend the next session on Thursday May 15 at 5 pm CET | 4 pm BST | 11 am EDT | 8 am PDT | 8.30 pm IST.
After registration, an automatic confirmation email and 2 reminder emails will be sent, which all include the Zoom link.
On May 15 we’ll be exploring the practice of Interspecies Councils. Our guest Louise Romain works with Moral Imaginations, while also being a sound artist/documentarist, and a trained anthropologist.
“The Interspecies Council is a life-centric practice and a form of more-than-human citizens assembly, created as part of the Moral Imaginations body of work to cultivate the muscle of moral imagination—imagination on behalf of the welfare of the whole.
The Interspecies Council introduces more-than-human ontologies and perspectives into systems through decision-making and governance. The methodology was created by Phoebe Tickell through her mentorship with Joanna Macy, and adapts elements of the approach ‘The Council of All Beings’ to decision making and deliberation. It's an exercise of more-than-human deliberation that balances rational and analytical approaches with imagination and more-than-human empathy, applied to real world issues, while bridging inner and outer shifts.
Rather than a discussion about nature, the Interspecies Council turns it into a discussion from the point of view of nature. The learning session will look at practical examples, experiences, and principles behind the practice. We warmly welcome your thoughts and questions as participants in the session.”
Be sure to sign up to the sandbox's mailing list to receive announcements of future sessions.
We look forward to seeing you there!
